Kate Somerville Skin Care
I have had a pretty good skin care routine for a while now with great products that have really been working for my skin.
I had been seeing Kate Somerville skin care every where; YouTube, Instagram, ads on Facebook. So I wanted to give it a try and see if it is as good as everyone seems to say. I got a really good deal actually - there was a deal on the website where with any purchase you got a Love Your Skin Trio set, which included a Dermal Quench Wrinkle Warrior, Wrinkle Warrior 2-in-1 plumping Moisturiser + Serum and the Liquid Exfolikate. The product I purchased was the ExfoliKate Cleanser.
I'm not going to lie, I had pretty high hopes for these products!
I'm going to start with the ExfoliKate Cleanser. I usually use a gel cleanser and the KS cleanser is quite a thick creamy texture. This cleanser is said to "Deep clean your face, gently remove oil, makeup and impurities for a softer, radiant complexion". "It contains Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid which help refine the appearance of pores and clear dead skin cell build up from skin's surface" It also contains "Pineapple, pumpkin and papaya enzymes to gently exfoliate without over-drying".
I used it with my Rio silicone cleanser and my skin was clean and soft afterwards. Although I did notice that it was not necessarily as glowy as usual. I was particularly excited to use this as I do have some pores on the larger side. But after using this for a month I haven't noticed any difference in the appearance of any pores.
I followed this up with the Liquid ExfoliKate. This is the product that I have seen the most on social media and was interested what it actually does and how it works. it is "10% AHA and fruit enzyme-powered nightly leave on exfoliating solution that gently sloughs away dullness and refines the look of pores, for smoother, softer more glowing skin."
With this I put some on a cotton pad and rubbed over my face as directed. I let it dry then continued with the other two products. In all honesty after a week I did notice some improvement in the texture of my skin, but at the end of the trial month my skin is actually in worse condition that the start. I am sure this is not entirely down to the products I have been using but I don't see any improvement in the appearance of my pores or overall glow. Which is what I wanted from this new routine.
Next step in this routine is the DermalQuench Wrinkle Warrior. This is said to be "Clinically perfected to work quickly to visibly plump the skin while smoothing fine lines and wrinkles." It has "HA3 - three different sizes of hyaluronic acid to target different levels of the epidermis to provide immediate* and long-term hydration. Sichuan pepper extract to instantly reduce the look of wrinkles, fine lines and crows feet. And Polyglutamic acid to help increase skin moisturisation 4x more than hyaluronic acid alone."
This is a strange product, you shake the aerosol can and it sprays out a foam which turns to liquid on the face and sinks in quickly. It is very hydrating, and my skin was moisturised and looked nice after application. With regards to wrinkles and fine lines, the jury is out on this. I had my Botox top up a few days after starting this routine and didn't notice any difference before the Botox took full effect around 10 days afterwards. I do still have some fine lines as I only have a small amount of Botox and I don't feel these have reduced very much after using this product.
The last product in this routine is the Wrinkle Warrior 2-in-1 plumping Moisturiser + Serum. This serum will "Win the war on wrinkles with this powerful, age-fighting solution that works as both a moisturiser and a serum to target 3 types of wrinkles: crows feet, fine lines and deep wrinkles. This also has HA3, which has the ability to hold 1,000 times its weight in water, to deliver immediate* plumping and hydration while improving the appearance of skin firmness and elasticity. It has a blend of Biotechnology-Activated Sugar, Copper and Essential Amino Acids showing high clinical efficacy within 15 days, resulting in visible reduction of deep wrinkles and the appearance of skins tightness."
This is a really nice product and a little goes a long way. It was hydrating and I did have an immediate glow. However, again I didn't see a big reduction in fine lines.
(*immediatey - up to 30 mins)
So my overall thoughts...
These are lovely products, that is clear. The ingredients are amazing and the quality is definitely there. I did find that I had breakouts a week or so in to this new routine. It could have been the products, it could have been the change from my normal skin care products. My skin has been hydrated and has an immediate glow. However, the glow does not stay throughout the day even when I am not wearing makeup, which is quite often these days. Fine lines and wrinkles - I haven't seen a lot of improvement (except for effects of Botox) I am seeing possibly some light reduction on lower crows feet and maybe my lower forehead (I only have Botox in the top of my forehead and side crows feet). But this could also be because I don't have a lot of wrinkles.
Finally the point I am most disappointed about - I cannot see an improvement in pore size or skin texture. I am forever searching for products that will improve my skins texture and these are just not it for me. My skin looked better over all with my previous skin care routine and products. I am not saying that the Kate Somerville products wouldn't make a difference over more time but I have tried for a month and thought this should be enough time to show some changes.
I would like to add that it is quite a stressful time in the world right now and added stress may be having an effect on my skin. I do get hormonal breakouts which are usually in the same area - my chin - but the breakouts I have had this past month have been throughout the month and also not just on my chin. I know that the ingredients are great in these products so maybe at a less stressful time I will try these out again, or maybe different products. These may be better for skin that is more mature than my now 40(!!) year old skin. I like my skin to be clear and glowing as much as possible, and have relied quite heavily on Retinol over the past year or so and these products do not contain Retinol maybe that is why the appearance of my skin is just not the same?
I do have some product left and I will continue to use them until they are finished. The whole range is high end and the prices do reflect that, so my advice would be where possible go for the travel sizes or source a discount. Then if you like it go for the full size. I do this with most skin care as you just never know if what you are trying will suit your skin.
So not all negative - they are lovely products with great ingredients, just not for me at the moment.
Thank you for reading and I hope you have enjoyed this blog post! Let me know if you have tried any of these products and what you think of them!
